Our Mission
"As we grow in our
joyful relationship with the living God, we live it out in community,
and we offer it to others."
Our youth group mission statement really says it all. First Baptist
Church’s Youth Fellowship is a community of individuals who
are bound together by their common belief in the Lord Jesus Christ.
We exist to worship the one true God with our whole lives, while gathering
together weekly in order to encourage, to sharpen, and to challenge
one another in our walk with God. Recognizing that we have done nothing
to earn our salvation and that this same salvation is available to
all people by grace through faith, we are joyfully committed to the
proclamation, in word and in deed, of the Good News: salvation and
eternal life in Jesus Christ.
You might be wondering about our name, The Burn. We took this from
Jeremiah 20:9: “But if I say, ‘I will not mention him
[God] or speak any more in his name,’ his word is in my heart
like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it
in; indeed, I cannot.” When people come to know Jesus Christ
as Lord and Savior, like Jeremiah, they cannot keep the best news
the world has ever known silent; they must proclaim it. We must proclaim
it, not to be loud or obnoxious, but to be voices that proclaim freedom,
joy, forgiveness and life through Jesus. That is our burning desire. |
