Who we are
The Church
For more information on First Baptist, please visit our home page
at www.fbcreading.org.
The Church's Beliefs
Since the global "Body of Christ" (i.e. the Church) is so
wide and so diverse (hence the sheer amount of Christian denominations),
we find it necessary to emphasize the "Essentials" and the
"Nonessentials" of the faith. In other words, there are
certain "essential" beliefs to which we ascribe in order
to be deemed biblical Christians. The "nonessentials" are
those convictions which, while still important, are nonetheless "nonessential"
when it comes to determining one's salvation. These beliefs are outlined
and described in more detail under the What
We Believe link to the left.
The Youth Fellowship
In a church with roughly 200 members, the Jr. and Sr. High Youth Fellowships
combined have a roster of about 40 teenagers, 20 or so in Sr. High
and 20 or so in Jr. High.
The Church Youth Staff
Dana Smith Youth
Director
Dana
is the new guy at First Baptist, having begun his service here in
June, 2007. Before coming to Reading, he served as the Chaplain at
Lexington Christian Academy in Lexington, MA and as the Director of
Youth and Christian Education at the Great Valley Presbyterian Church
in Malvern, PA. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell
Theological Seminary. One of his passions is participating in the
global mission of the church, having co-led or led missions trips
to Holland, Guatemala, Haiti, France, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.
Other interests include sports (he still actively plays soccer and
helps out with the Christian Athletes Hockey Camps when he can), theatre,
and film (he's on an episode of a tv show that still runs nationally.
Your mission: name that show!). Next to knowing his Lord and Savior,
his greatest joy is being married to his wife, Kristen (M.Div. from
Gordon-Conwell), and being a dad to his two boys, Micah and Caleb.
Soli Deo Gloria!
Monica Rabadjija Volunteer
Monica
has been helping out with the FBC youth group since Fall of 07. She
is a sophomore at Boston University where she is studying Political
Science and Film. If you're wondering what she's going to do with
those degrees, then you're in good company, because so is she.
She enjoys long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners, and making
her Bio for the youth group sound like a personal ad. She's also actively
involved with her InterVarsity group on campus, and various theatrical
projects.
Her most recent endeavor has been playing for the Boston University
Dental School Intramurals Floor Hockey team. She considers this a
very special achievement, as she is neither a Dental student, or very
good at floor hockey. She gives credit to all of the puff-polo with
giant Q-tips on Sunday nights.
Mary Coté Volunteer
Mary
is the newest and youngest youth volunteer at FBC. But that doesn't
mean she's any less fantastic than Monica or Dana! In fact, it means
that arthritis will probably hit her last of the three! Woo Hoo!
After attending the Youth Group her senior year and going with
them to Albertville in 2008, she was extremely excited for the opportunity
to join the youth staff!
Mary is a freshman at Gordon College in Wenham, MA majoring in...majoring
in...well, why don't you just ask her what her plans are this week!
She's interested in many different areas including Biblical studies,
English, and Missions.
She loves old movies, Thai food, fiction books, Carmel lattes,
and fair trade stuff! If you want to know more, ask away; she loves
a good conversation.
